Liverpool news: Bobby Duncan pays his respects to Manchester City after FA Youth Cup win
His super strike helped Liverpool on their way to FA Youth Cup success, but Bobby Duncan was not about to rub salt into Manchester City’s wounds. The striker, who is Steven Gerrard’s cousin, moved from City to Liverpool in 2018 and scored to take Thursday’s final into extra-time, with the Reds going on to win 5-3 on penalties. And afterwards the 17-year-old sent a respectful message to his former club on Twitter. He wrote: “I just want to pay my respect to Man City Academy and all the staff and players who have been on my journey it was a great game with 2 top teams!”Duncan scored 66 goals for City in the 2015/16 season and became the first player in any England age group, including the seniors, to score a hat-trick against Brazil in a 4-3 win in November 2016.Unable to agree a new contract with City, he chose to stay away and spend a year without a club when they activated a years scholarship to cover the 2017/18 season. The teenager then joined boyhood club Liverpool in 2018. Duncan’s Cup final goal, brought his tally in all competitions this season to 32.Chelsea had won the FA Youth Cup for the previous five years and this Liverpool win ended a 12-year wait to lift the trophy.Captain Paul Glatzel, another prolific striker, held his nerve to convert the decisive spot-kick.It was effectively an away game for Liverpool, with the final being played at the Etihad Campus in front of a watching Pep Guardiola, whose first team lead Liverpool in the Premier League by a point with three games to play.
